| Delivery Tenders benefit producers of all sizes | |
Taegar Seed Finds More EfficiencyDealers are finding more value in bulk handling capabilities, including bulk tenders, for easier loading and faster delivery. And they're finding the efficiencies work just as well with smaller customers, as well as larger ones.
In Sperry, Iowa, Dean Taeger relies on bulk delivery tenders to help boost his soybean sales. It's popular with almost all his customers and impacts almost 90 percent of his business.
"We have two customers who still prefer to use small bags, even when offered bulk bags and bulk tenders," Taeger says. "We have some $40,000 customers, but we also have weekend farmers. The average order for a weekend farmer is 65 bags. Those customers also prefer to use the bulk tenders when available."
Taeger has a fleet of 15 bulk seed tenders which he calls his "bulk expresses" that are in constant use throughout planting season. "My customer like not having to handle sacks in the wind and bad weather, and also not having to worry about bag disposal. This also allows the farmer to fill his planter quicker and with less labor."
More Opportunities with BulkTaegar changes a small premium to deliver the tenders directly to the field, but prefers that his customers pick up their orders. "I like to hold the shipment for the customer to come in, because they'll often order more at that time," he says. "We put the seed and germination tags right on the side of the bulk tender unit, so they know what they're getting. The computer helps us keep track of all the orders."
Taeger currently offers 14 different varieties of soybean seed. His overall capacity is over 100,000 units of seed. "I try to buy two new bulk express tenders each year. Right now I want to upgrade my 110-unit tenders to the 220 unit size."
